Thanks for the update, Iceberg. It must be easier not to have to travel too far in the -20 weather with ice and snow, I can't begin to imagine how I'd be able to handle that (and I generally like cold weather)...

update :)

Grandma started eating "real people food" today
Tuna Casserole
Green Beans
Watermelon
(I dont consider applesauce real people food)

she is doing really good on therapy. She walked from the therapy room to her room which is a good haul for a normal person...much less someone using a walker

But tonight was tough. Grampa was leaving and gramma was sitting at a table in the lounge in her wheelchair. She said "push me away from the table" and grampa was like why? She said "I'm going home". Grampa told her she had to stay here and gramma, being gramma said "I'm going home. What part of that don't you god damn get" :D

So she is doing real well. She has a appt at the 1st hospital for a cat scan and to get the traeche out on Friday so we'll see what the doctor says then :)

well this past weekend we kinda had a setback...a minor one

Friday I went to the hospital and gramma wasnt in her room. I saw the piece of paper that lists everyone's therapy time and hers said 9:30 & 10:00....it was 9:55 so I was like "ok no biggie"

My mom calls me that night to tell me she got transported to the hospital which is attached to the long term facility where she is. She has a bladder infection and fever. No biggie as they'll keep her there for a couple days then she'll get moved back

Saturday something didnt just seem right. She was sleeping the whole time and only opened her eyes for a minute or so once in a while. Her fever broke but then her temp went below normal. So they did a cat scan to see what is going on. Well apparently the bacteria from the infection attacks parts of your body that "arent normal". It went after her knees but since those are metal (both of her knees are replaced) nothing happened. It then went after the shunt in her head which made the shunt not work and fluid was filling up.

So back to HCMC we go for them to do surgery. They drained the fluid and immediately gramma woke up and was aware of her surroundings. They have been giving her antibiotics to kill off the infection. They cant replace the shunt until the infection is gone. But today gramma was awake and talking to everyone and just being gramma. She starts therapy tomorrow...So from the sounds of it this trip to HCMC will be short....a week for sure...2 tops. Then since she is doing good she can come back to the local long term facility. :)

So its a minor setback but looks like this one we'll make it through just fine

Gramma is doing much better today. She's awake, talking and bossing people around...even has her sense of humor back :)

The doctor came in today and said "you're doing much better" and gramma said to the doctor "damn right I am" :)

so hopefully this is a short visit there

Hope she gets back out of there soon, sounds like they are giving her excellent treatment. Maybe she'll get home before Valentine's Day.

not much update lately. Just playing the waiting game for the bacteria to get out of her for 24+ hours so they can replace the shunt

She's been eating real food now 3 meals a day and doing her therapy just fine :)

Doc said bacteria is almost out of her completelly

well I just talked to my mom and today they put the new shunt in. They did the operation this afternoon. Her body is 100% bacteria free (has been since late Sunday)

She is doing good and they will keep her there for 2-3 days for observation then she'll be able to come back to St Gertrude's (the local one to us) to continue her therapy

I'll be happy when she comes back locally....that 35-40 minute drive to the cities (and the 6 buck per day parking) is getting old

I guess Gramma got moved back locally tonight. My mom called me late and thats really all she said and that it was a long day and she'd talk to me tomorrow..

But my mom did say that gramma wanted to drive the ambulance but they wouldn't let her :D
