Will mount fine in the hh90.

The only observations that I have had on this model is that the arm clips (on the LNBF clamp) tend to snap off after a few years. It can also be secured by a screw, so the clip failures won't be reason to replace. Make sure that this model has a metal clip for attaching the LNBF arm. Some versions have a plastic clip that fails and the arm droops or falls off. This design was distributed by 3ABN around 1999 or 2000. By 2003, I was finding many of the plastic clips failing and had to use tapper screws to secure the arms.

The mount weighs more than most 90cm dishes. A very common design in Western Europe.
 
Brian is the weight of the mount a problem then?? If it is I could hole saw a few holes in it to lighten it up, ya think? I've got one of your PLLs to mount on it if I buy it.

Phat, that dish in your link would be OK if it was a 1m, but it's not. I see you've got a 3ABN in your signature so I guess they are OK then, hey.
 
The mount weight shouldn't be excessive for the motor, but it is much more bulky than most.

Having serviced dozens of systems installed with that dish design, it isn't one that I would select for my system.
 
Well duh, I totally missed that dish was a full meter, had 90cm tunnel vision I guess.

I don't ever recall seeing a 1 meter dish shipped in that price range.

The 3ABN has been a good dish for what it is, had it on a DG380 till lightning got it, been on an old SG2100 for 3 or 4 years now.
 
I'm amazed you can get it shipped from Germany for that price.

I'm puzzled that the gain is listed as 37dB whereas a 90cm GeoSatPro dish lists 39dB, though.

So is that dB number being higher the ultimate performance indicator then? Probably a dumb question but need to ask since I'm not a dish geek.
 
This gain measurement is the primary specification to compare consumer type dishes. Typically, the higher the gain, the better the signal quality. Surface accuracy and beam pattern are also significant factors, but these specs are not usually available.

Specifications aside, may I ask why are considering purchasing this particular dish?

Well, knowing that bigger is better I had my heart set on a 1.2m Ku dish but the cost of it and an HH120 to move it being north of $450 is more than I want to spend. Retirement has it's down side.

So I was thinking that a 1m would be the next best thing and could be used on this HH90 I already have.

As for the dish on fleabay, it's just another 1m I've looked at and I thought that mount looked pretty simple to work with, and, the price is right @ $95 shipped. I've also looked at this one https://www.satmaximum.com/dish_100 for some time now but haven't been able to get them to answer any questions I've sent them on it's specs, and, it's about $15 more than the one from Germany.

That's pretty much it.

I think that any one meter dish will be too heavy for the HH90. Stab makes a motor specifically for a 1 meter dish (HH100), and one specifically for a 1.2 meter dish. My HH90 has a 90cm Fortec star dish installed (dish weight is right at the specified limit), and I have to reset elevation frequently due to excessive play in the motor shaft. Though that setup has been working for almost 9 years I rarely use it any more since I get better Ku reception with the bud (You have a few of those don't you). My ASC 1 is just as accurate as USALS (or a 4dtv) and rain fade is almost nonexistent..

mmwrench, yeah, I've got 3 BUD C/Ku systems up and running now. This Ku only parts/system hunting expedition started basically due to the fact that C/Ku LNBFs weren't available any more but Brian has put that problem to rest when he brought them back a month or two ago. I currently have 2 spare C/Ku LNBFs and my lightning problem, that was destroying them a couple of years back seems to have disappeared since I installed a ground at the dish.

Another member was kind enough to donate that HH90 to me for the shipping charges so I took him up on it. There was some confusion as to what he had as I was looking for an HH120 at the time but I have the HH90 so I just decided to use it, hence the search for the 1m dish.

Bongu, that ds3100 looks like a good dish but I'm not sure I can use it with this HH90. Specs state that it needs a 2.25 to 2.62 mount and the mount on this HH90 is only 1.650?? Price is good though at $110 shipped and the dB gain is around 40.
 
I have a GeoSatPro 90cm dish and a Sadoun HH Motor. Both have served me well. If I had the chance to buy the dish again, I would definately go for a 1.2M dish. It's nice to have the extra capture area for those weak TP's.
 
OK so it's been almost a week now and no suggestions on the potential Winegard/HH90 mount problem, and please be patient guys because I've NEVER done a Ku only dish install? You think it's bad now, just wait and see what happens if I ever get one up!! :oldwink

The specs for that DS3100 state that it requires a 2.25" to 2.62" post to mount it? I'm "assuming" they mean for a stationary mount? That HH90 stub is only 1.65"? So that means that there's about an inch difference between that dish mount and the HH90 dish mount stub, correct? I know I'm not the only one to ever do this so I got to ask, what do I use to shim that dish mount so I can put it on the HH90 stub?

Think, IIRR, that some have split a piece of PVC lengthwise (??) to basically 'sleeve' the motor shaft. Can't find the thread(s) tho- but I think that's what I would try.
 
Lone Gunman I have that same dish on a sg2100. I just drilled three holes in the motor shaft to make it work. It has been working since earlier this year. I think I got the idea from a thread i saw here at sat guys. Prior to that I had it shimmed with a piece of rubber hose that worked good also. It sounds like the sg2100 shaft and the motor that you have are basically the same size.
 
UPDATE: I was seeking advice/help with this HH90 stub because it's too small for that Winegard sd3100 mount and was hoping that there was a "simple" solution to that problem. Well, that doesn't seem to be the case so today I got my thinking cap on and went looking here in the shop for something to make a bushing. I know this might look like a "rig" but it's the best I could do without spending money and all this stuff was just laying around my shop.

So my material list is as follows:

1 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe
2" OD 16ga steel tubing, which is a piece of race header pipe I had in scrap.
2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe

All were cut to 5" lengths. The first piece was split into two pieces because of the knob on the end of that stub but the other two were just split on one side. All pieces installed and with a SS hose clamp on'em that stub OD is 2.390", which falls almost in the middle of the Winegard spec.

So can anyone give me a reason why this won't work before I spend money for that dish?

Winegard has 2 different types of mounts. One has a teethed plate that clamps onto the pole with four bolts. (the other I think is like dish uses on their smaller dishes, curved metal held together with 2 carriage bolts) The plates are weak but sufficient if you do not over tighten them. Would almost be better using two muffler clamps with the support against the dish side. When I had my HH90 I put a rod through the hole in the motor shaft to help keep the dish from turning. the problem comes if the dish has a bolt that runs through the clamp as a pivot point and it is where the motor shaft is. You will have to look at the mount for the dish to see if this is going to be a problem or not.
