Which hookup is better? Coaxial or Ethernet? Can you hook up both? Thank you

Both should work assuming your Genie is connected to the internet through wifi, ethernet, or a cinema connection kit.

If you have the coax nearby from the DirecTV network I would recommend that way, as it is an isolated network for DirecTV.

do not hook up both at once. if the genie is already connected to the internet in some fashion, all you need to do is use the supplied splitter and hook it in via coax.

Actually, if you hook up both and properly reset all network settings, then restart everything a gg2 can function as a broadband deca. I have been doing this in my own home for over a year now...

the point is if you have two connections to the internet on the same coax network, you will be shooting yourself in the foot because it'll mess up the GG2 and genie with two conflicting IP's.
