I am beyond frustrated with directv!!!

Okay, third DIRECTV guy showed up and this guy said he wouldn't be able to do it either, and just one guy showed up.
But he did give me some advice.

1. Go with the contractor to do the install and pay more money out of pocket to do it without having to cancel the account.
2. Sign up for Directv through either costco or Sams club under a family member and get them to send their own guys instead of directv.
3. Sign up for Directv through a local small retailer under a family member and it would then be 100% guaranteed it would be their guys doing the install.
4. Get U-Verse lol, it would be a new customers deal under my name, but honestly I don't know how good UVerse is these days compared to 9 years ago when I last had it.

I have no problem supporting a local retailer, but I don't think they would be able to match what costco offers and that is a $200 cash card.

before you go with costco/sams ect
go to the directv forums and look at all the horror stories.
those salesman promise a lot that cane be done
get a reputable company

That's what I was worried about...
So my only option is to get another contractor to do the install and then call DIRECTV retention to reimburse the cost?
ATM I am paying almost less than a new customer with all the promos I have...especially with the $25 wireless discount. I could technically switch the wireless account under the family member and then still get the discount.

Your best bet is to find a small one man DirecTV dealer - if there are any left and signup under someone else. You need someone that sells 1-2 systems a week, is hungry for business and will take the time to install your system.

Which I did find, yesterday...that's why I am a bit iffy about costco because I worry if they promise something like sending their own techs but they send an actual directv guy which would pretty much end badly.
At the same time it's kinda hard passing up on the $200 cash card deal.

problem is those cash cards dont always come. the info never makes it to directv

So I called the guy I talked to yesterday, he said he can send his guy to do a site survey today or tomorrow morning to check things out. I am gonna sign up under a different family member, he said I can also get a two year price lock since we have att wireless. He said he gonna try to come close to the deal that costco offers and see what he can do. I rather support a small business vs a multi billion dollar company. Plus his guy would be more flexible doing stuff vs costco contractors.

He is gonna email me a form to fill up.

As much as I like Costco, it's a third party they partner with for this kind of stuff and they will probably just send the install to DirecTV or an install contractor and you'll be in the same situation.

The costco guy I talked to is that they fill up two forms and one form goes to directv and the other one goes to their own contractor for the install. But again they are always willing to sell you the world and then come finding out they gonna charge you...he did mention something like a $1 for their own guy install.

Are you a DirecTV or Dish technician?
No. I have installed enough dishes and I know enough about construction techniques to know what is and isn't a solid mount. Two lag screws into the end of a rafter isn't solid even with additional screws in the other holes in the mount. If it was good enough, Directv wouldn't have a j tube rafter mount.

Well dishdude and myself have installed several thousand dishes each and I think you're misunderstanding what he's saying. The 'end of a rafter' as you say could be interpreted in a couple of different ways. First of all most roofs now a days are built with trusses which are built with 2/4's. So you put 2 long lags in the stud at the end of the truss and four more lags in the corners, just like you do with a regular roof mount. Then you add the support arms into the adjacent studs and you've got a mount that you can do pull ups on.

If you're picturing a couple of lags into the end of a rotten 2X4 and that's all then that would definitely not be OK, but that's knowledge that would be gained with the experience of doing this for a living.

Okay, talked to Claude over the phone, I talked to the local retailer and Costco and lastly Directv retention.

Here is what it's going to happen:

The installer from the local retailer showed up and he said he would do the install including the dish for $240 because he will need to use additional tools to put the dish on the roof fascia where I and the HOA wanted originally, he said with the clamp or whatever he calls it the install would be safe and would look good.

Directv retention said as long as I take the invoice over to an att store and call them that they would reimburse me whatever he installation cost would cost me.

So if it turns out to be over $240 they would still reimburse me the cost.

This is the best approach, getting a new account would be a pain because then I'd have to pay a $99 installation for the genie wireless, just didn't feel like getting another account, plus I like the $25 discount and $10 combined bill discount and another $10 for auto pay, that alone makes up big.

Rafters are notorious for not only being rotten but also skewed and loose. Fascias are also often rotten and not strong enough to properly attach a base to. They also aren't usually big enough to attach the entire base to. If you did enough construction you would know that.

I believe I've seen more roofs and rafters from the inside and the outside in the last 32 years of installing satellite dishes than most folks. I am quite familiar with the conditions.

This is where it's gonna go, I'll post pics when the install is done.
We will have the main genie upstairs and the wireless one downstairs, it would look the cleanest that way. Hopefully in the next few years directv will release a better wireless client.

You don't really think Costco is doing the install, do you ?

Make sure you have that in writing and take a copy with you to the store .... the store people are not gonna have a clue what your talking about so be prepared to explain it all.

What they are telling is to go to an att store and then call retention from there and basically the att rep at the store would validate the copy receipt...and they said they would notate the account.
