PS4 Owners Thread

This is a good month for me. I never got around to buying MGS 5.

I've been meaning to get back to it and seeing that it'll be free I'm glad I didn't buy the PC version. I played on the PS4 and it ran fine so I'll take free over 4K resolution. Sadly though I'm not sure when I'll get to it, which was a major reason why I never bought the game even on sale.

I don't have a 4K PC monitor. Both of mine are 1440p. Even though my PC is more powerful and capable of running at higher settings the only place I get 4K gaming is on my 4K TV with my PS4 Pro. Still, higher settings and higher framerate at 1440p usually looks better to me than 4K coming from my PS4.

It sucks that you can't just swap out the processor unit. The headset I don't care about updating, as integrated earbuds isn't a big deal, and I prefer having a connection in order to add better ones (I hate earbuds), plus the correct location of the volume button on the cable is pretty convenient.
If I already own a PS VR, can I swap out my old Processor Unit with the updated one?

Because the cables of CUH-ZVR1 and CUH-ZVR2 are different, you cannot swap the Processor Units.

It doesn't sound like the new processing unit has any more power than the original unit. The main difference is that it is designed for the new cables and supports HDR passthrough. It's kind of baffling that the first version didn't support HDR passthrough but at least people with the new model won't be getting a more powerful VR experience than people with the original model.

Sony is modifying their rewards programs to let people earn points towards PSN credits by unlocking trophies.

Before you get excited, you need a LOT of trophies to unlock stuff, and not all trophies are equal. For example, you get NOTHING for bronze trophies.

I have to imagine that with this new service that Sony will be cracking down much more on Trophy Farming games, such as this:

I suspect this won't be retroactive or it will be a one-time bonus (i.e., you won't get 1,000 points for every 10 platinum trophies). My rewards account doesn't appear to be syncing properly as it's not even recognizing any trophies I earned (and synced to Sony's servers) since signing in to the rewards website early Friday (11/3).

EDIT: Just for kicks and giggles I calculated the max points I could earn if it was retroactive and I could earn each trophy-related bonus multiple times based on my current trophy totals. I came up with 10,850 points, which would translate to $10.85. Free credits are free credits when it comes to buying merch, but that point total represents almost eight years of trophy whoring (which I gave up doing a couple years ago).

Only reason I ever bother with trophies, is to extend the playability of games I like. But I rarely go out of my way to get them, aka spend hours to kill "x" number type enemies.

Don't see myself going out of the way to get points either.

Anyone with PlayStation VR experience? Is it worth buying? I'm considering getting it when it's on sale.

I have an Oculus Rift hooked to my PC and while VR is very cool I haven't touched it in months. There are some amazing experiences like Superhot VR (EVE Valkarie and ADR1FT were very cool too) but it's not going to be the way you play all your games anytime soon. The vast majority of games just aren't built for it so it's mostly smaller experiences.

The game I play 90% of the time is Fallout 4 and I know that's in VR now. The bundle also has Skyrim which looks really good and I've never played before. I may spend the money on that instead of more money on a laptop that I don't really need at the moment.
