    Reverse Satellite Aiming Software/Calculator

I'm looking for software or a calculator for satellite locating. But, I need something that works in reverse. That is, instead of giving me the azimuth and elevation to point my dish at a specific satellite from a given location, I need to enter a location, azimuth, and elevation and find out...

Coolsat 6000 - Still any good?

I haven't been here in years. I was planning to do some FTA stuff, but never got to it. I got a new Coolsat 6000 receiver. Are these things still of any use? Or has technology passed me by? I don't know whether to keep it and try in my new location (moving soon) or put it in the yard sale or...

How to record more than 5 episodes

I've got a DirecTV HD DVR I've set up to record several series. Sometimes a channel will have a marathon on a series, but I only get five episodes, the earlier ones get dumped. Is there a setting someplace where I can set the number of episodes to keep? Thanks, Michael

    Receiver rack mount

I've got a bunch of D11-500 receivers in an eight slot rack mount. These are slowly dying and DirecTV is sending me D12-100 replacements. Naturally, they are just slightly thicker than the D11-500, so they don't fit the rack slots. Does anyone know where I can get a rack mount that will hold...

    NASA Mandatory HD Upgrade?

Today I am getting a banner on the NASA channel that says I must upgrade to HD to continue to receive NASA, even though it will still be a standard def channel. What other channels are affected by this mandatory upgrade? How much are they charging for this? Sounds like another D* ripoff.

    Anybody try a Multi-dish array

Has anyone tried using a multi dish array of small dishes instead of one large dish? I know they do it for space communications and radio astronomy. Instead of having one humongous dish, they use an array of smaller dishes all pointed at the same place. That way, they use three or four 40m...

    Presidential Event Channel

I was recently visiting a location that uses a lot of FTA stuff. One of the monitors showed the Pres Seal and said "Presidential Event Channel." Unfortunately, I was not in a position to get a better look at equipment or ask questions. Apparently, this is a feed by the White House...

    Which satellite to choose?

I finally got a dish up. It's an old DirecPC, the bigger one. It is fixed and a real pain to get to it to aim. So, if you had one Ku satellite to point to and see something worthwhile now and then, which one would you recommend? Please, no extensive recommendations on adding LNBs, etc...

    Viewsat bad boy

It appears the owner of Viewtech, the company that imports FTA receivers and sells them under the Viewsat brand has been indicted for "conspiracy to violate the Digital Millenium Copyright Act." He allegedly hired a couple guys to hack the new Dish Network encryption codes for Nagra 3...

    Channel Master Satellite Meters

I was looking around thinking of getting a new meter. I found the Channel Master 1008IFD. It is actually a pair 1007IFDs in one case, so you can measure two LNBs at once. Now the curious part. Some vendors have them listed anywhere from $179 to $305. Then there are a bunch listed for $89...

    Recommendations? (New reply, old thread)

I know this is an old thread, but I just ran across it while searching for something else. Here's some FWIW info. CRC program providers like USA, Moody, etc. on the CRC carrier almost never know their PIDS. They have no need to and have no control over them. The providers backhaul their...

    Fixed dish, which satellite?

If you had one dish, no motor, no extra lnbs, preferred whatever you got in English, which satellite would you point to? First, second and third choice. Thanks.

    Best C-Band satellites?

I'm looking at the various locations in my yard I might put a BUD. The problem is, there is no where to get a full H-H scan without obstructions. So, I need to figure where I'd get the best selection in a given direction. I've thumbed through Lyngsat, but that is a little awkward. I don't...

    BUD Pipe in DFW

I know there are some on here in the DFW area. I'm looking for a cheap pipe to mount my newly acquired BUD. I need a 3.5" OD steel pipe about 16 ft long. Preferably on the West side (Tarrant Co.) Thanks for any ideas.

    Non-TV/Radio??

Is there a place on this site that discusses satellite stuff other than TV/Radio? Like weather sats and other satellite activities? I couldn't find anything, and figured this was the best place to ask. Thanks.

    AC3 Audio?

I've seen comments about some channels using AC3 audio and decoders for it. If you have something that will play AC3 audio, how do you take it from your receiver? Does it come like garbled out the audio jacks and you feed it into your AC3 decoder? Is it a digital signal you take from the...

    What's available in hardware?

What is available and what do folks recommend to get or stay away from these days in PC satellite tuners? I know there are some PCI cards out there. Anything in PCIe? How about outboard tuners that connect via USB? I am a Linux user, so I'd need something that has Linux drivers available...

    Railway Channel??

I recently heard of an alleged satellite feed called the Railway Channel or something like that. I don't know if it was a full time channel or just a part time feed. It may be related to a particular railroad, I don't know. It had all kinds of various information regarding railroads. Anyhow...

Any idea what satellite I found?

Trying to set this DirecPC dish up with the new Coolsat 6000 (clone?) is getting to me. First I found about 70 TV channels, all scrambled. From the looks of it, probably Dish 119. I found another satellite and did a blind scan. This one came up with 4 radio channels. 11.812V - Radio 11...

    How come no angle calculator?

I was going to ask why does the premier satellite forum not have a look angle calculator. However, I did finally find a link to the one on Sadoun's website. How's about making that somewhat more prominent or easier to find? Reference it in the stickies or something. Make a tab or link on...

    Coolsat 6000 Premium

I see a whole pile of new Coolsat 6000 Premium receivers on eBay so far all are <$50. I read the reviews here, but they are almost three years old. Are these still suitable receivers? Are they still supported for firmware updates, etc? IOW, is it worth spending money on these days? Some...

    Worth the hassle?

I just picked up an old DirecPC system. It looks like there might be a linear LNB on it. I've got an old receiver from my Mom when she got a new 4DTV (or whatever) receiver. She pulled the VideoCipher module out of it and sent the receiver to me. What I'm wondering is it worth the hassle...

    C-Band and WiMax

Despite previous comments made by the wireless industry, C-band users are starting to get interference from new WiMax installations. The new WiMax Internet stuff is coming out with transmitters on 3650-3700. Most of the satellites I did a quick check for start at 3700 for TP 1. It seems...

    Area blackout for NASA???

So, I'm happily watching the series of 50th Anniversary speeches on NASA channel 283 and the screen goes blank. Then a message pops saying this programming is not available in my area. NASA with regional blackouts? You've got to be kidding! You think I can get anyone to answer at DTV? Hah!

    DirecPC dish and Dish rx

I just picked up a complete two-way DirecPC system. I was searching the forums and I seem to recall seeing a post where someone got one of these dishes. IIRC, the poster said he pointed it at IA6 and connected a Dish Network receiver to it and picked up a number of channels. Now, I can't find...
