2010-11 NHL Hockey Season

Vancouver looks great this season, but it's hard to jump on the Canucks bandwagon since they have never seriously contended for the Stanley Cup. To me, I feel they are more apt to get bounced in the first-round than to make it to the Stanley Cup Final. We shall see...

Mario Lemieux likes to come out on a soapbox about concussions and other things, like he's the all-time consience of the sport or something. But when his own player, Matt Cooke, a repeat offender, delivers a cheap shot elbow to the head of Ryan McDonagh of the Rangers yesterday...not a word from Mario, the chubby owner of the Penguins.

What a surprise.

Well it all depends on who's Oax it is.

IMHO, Cooke's season should be over with. Indefinite Suspension. Give him the balance of the season, playoffs and appear in front of the Commish next fall requesting readmission.

The penguins told him that his actions wasn't acceptable and they agreed with the suspension, they don't need actions like that. IMO he well be gone at the end of the year.

If Mario had any balls, he would have put Cooke on waivers, and made his own statement that the Pittsburgh Penguins don't condone head shots. Here he has the best player in hockey out with a concussion, and yet he stands by and waits for the NHL to discipline his goon and multi time offender. The NHL was too soft. He should have been suspended indefinitely, and be required to reapply for admittance in the League next season. The Penguins team should have been fined the equivalent of Cooke's salary for allowing such conduct to continue after he was originally suspended for previous offenses. You can't talk out of both sides of your mouth Mario.

Ray Shero Statement on Matt Cooke Suspension - Pittsburgh Penguins - Features

Would rather have heard big Mario make this statement, but it is refreshing to hear Ray Shero give an unqualified condemnation of Cooke's actions, and unqualified support for the suspension. Too often teams try to rationalize what their player did, and the Penguins didn't do that.

From what they are saying on the news here is that Mario had a long sit down with Cooke and told him his actions won't be tolerated.

Well when the Islander situation happened, big Mario did not have a long sit down with the NHL, he was extremely public in telling anyone and everyone what he thought of the Islanders, and how the league handled it.

In this case it would carry more 'weight' if he did the same thing.

I still give them credit for Shero's comments, though.

Who is Shero ?

Last night seemed to be shut out night. Nice Jobs by Miller, Lundqvist and Reimer,

Actually, Vokoun outplayed Lundqvist in the Ranger/Panther game. A couple of nice saves by Hank, but the Rangers were all over Vokoun all night and he was incredible until they finally put one past him.
