2011 AL Central Thread

Holy Cow! The Indians keep rolling over the competition and onward to the best record in baseball. Is this team for real or, like Charlie Sheen, are they merely experiencing a manic episode. Bi-winning? Let's see where they are in the standings come the end of May.

I keep holding my breath, but the way this team is playing, it doesn't seem like a fluke. Great starting pitching, a dependable bullpen, timely hitting, situational in-game adjustments by the manager. Our next 12 games are against Central Division Opponents. We may see where we actually stand sooner than later....

Why do the Indians have the best record in the AL?

They are first in runs scored.

Second in fewest runs allowed.

Tied for first in fewest unearned runs allowed.

Fourth in ERA.

Tied for first in fewest HR allowed.

Tied for third in fewest walks allowed.

Fifth in FPC.

Third in defensive rating.

Tied for fifth in fewest errors committed.

Simply put, the Tribe is playing sound baseball. While they may not have the best talent, they are doing a good job at maximizing the talent at hand.

Thanks supportive Tiger fans. Best of luck to you too. Just not too much luck. I'm selfish. ;)

Another Tribe win last night on the heels of a 4 run outburst in extra innings to put the Tribe up 7-3 for the win. Who would've thought the Royals and Indians would be battling for first place and the Twinkies would be seller dwellers? I like it!

Royals and Indians winning is keeping the Tigers and Twins from moving up in the standings.

Will the REAL Indians please Stand UP ! :D

Even in a loss, the Tribe looked good.

Our #5 starter, Mitch Talbot was put on the 15 day DL. In comes rookie, Jeanmar Gomez who went 4.1 innings and gave up 5 runs. In relief, the bullpen gave up nothing. On the opposite side of the mound was red-hot Bruce Chen who was cruising until the 7th where the Indians came THIS close to overcoming the deficit. Fast forward to the 9th inning...

Tribe down 4-5. Bases loaded! 2 outs. Carlos Santana at the plate. He then watches THREE straight strikes go by him to strikeout looking! Ugh! Game over.

Tribe Spoils Perfect Game

For 60 pitches Wednesday night, the former Royals 1st round draft pick, Luke Hochevar was perfect. The Indians couldn't touch him. He had a 2-0 lead after five innings. He was on top of the world.

It all ended in a 36-pitch sixth inning. Bye-bye perfect game, no-hitter, shutout, lead and finally, the game. The Indians scored four runs on five hits in the decisive sixth on their way to a 7-5 victory over Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium.

Justin Masterson (4-0, 1.71 ERA) got the win, making him only the 3rd AL pitcher to start 4-0.

The Tribe is now 13-5 and lead the division by two games. After 18 games last year, they were 8-10. What a difference a year makes.

Hey, Hey, Hey..... GO TRIBE!!!!!!!!

Enjoy the Tribes ride, nice to see them playing some good ball...Tigers need to get one a bit of a winning streak

Verlander was dealing tonight.
Had a No Hitter going till 2 out in the 4th.
Went 7 innings giving up 4 hits, of the 4 hits, 3 were HR's all of the single run variety.
He also had his 1000th career K, striking out the last batter he faced.

Tigers win 9-3 !

Tigers are 7-3 in thier last 10 and back at the .500 mark at 10-10.

10-10 mark not bad considering they have been on the road for this part of the season, last night was close to a complete game. Great Pitching and some clutch hits came together

I'll use my usual measuring stick, the 40 game mark to decide if they are going to go anywhere, of course thats not a definite either as they could get hot and run off a good streak and that will not prevent the typical after the All Star collapes.
Maybe they can win about 60 games before the AS break to assure they might make the playoffs, ya right ...

Of course they could just as easily lose 14 of the next 20 as well .....

Just bought four tickets to todays game against the sox, first baseball game for the kids, perfect weather day for baseball about 70 or so
