2014 AL Central

Today is the 1st day I have that I can sit down and watch the Tigers, I want to particularly see Castellonos, I think he's gonna be the real deal ... having day games all week have prevented me from watching.

Today I find out Castellonos will Not be playing, instead I get to see the 25th guy on most rosters, Don Kelly .... ugh.

I really dont dislike Kelly, I'm just tired of him always playing when the better players sit.

Back in the day, your bench players were on the bench when the Starting line up played, now days, at least in Detroit they have a rule against playing your best players more than a few days at a time.

This is something I disliked with Leyland and its continuing with Ausmus.

I haven't been able to watch a game yet this season. Opening day coming in the last 2 weeks of tax season always means I don't get to watch Tigers games. I have listened to all of them in the radio. That's a nice distraction at least. I'm making a point to get out of the office in time to watch tomorrow's 1:00 game though.

So far, all I have seen is other teams night games thanks to MLB.tv.

Sounds like Porcello has it going today. 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, and 3 strikeouts so far.

Yes, Porcello pitched very well today, it's a shame the pen tried thier best to give it away.

I was talking with a buddy and at the time they were pulling Porcello out, they were up 7-1 I think and I said something like, well, we won't need to see Nathan today .... WRONG ...

Haven't been in yet this year. I'm going out on big limb here and projecting that my Twins will—again this year—NOT lose 100 games!

Must see TV today .... ? Probably .

Verlander on the mound, looking for a well pitched game today .... may have to go 8 in order to avoid the dark shadow that is thevTigers Bullpen .... excluding Nathan.

Verlander pitches well today, 8 innings 5 hits 2 runs and is in line for the loss ...
Pen takes over in the 9th and promptly gives up a HR.
Tigers trail 3-1 now ...

So Verlander has pitched 8 today and I think 6 on Opening day and has yet to get any run support in his start to an 0-1 season.

Unless they can get runs in the bottom of the 9th ... they have a whopping 4 hits so far today.

Yep, JV should have two wins instead of a loss - need run support. I'm really not happy with our bullpen's performance. Did you noticed how everyone was booing Phil Coke the other day? He has turned into the Tiger's Brad Penny.

Heard tonight on the news that theres talk that the Bullpen will have changes soon if this continues thru the end of the month probably ....
Talk of Coke and Chamberlin better get better quick ...

Also, possibly a change at SS, Gonzalas hasn't exactly been very good since the Opening Day.

I know it's early, but the bullpen is the one glaringly obvious shortcoming for the Tigers. Meanwhile, the Tigers are in LA this evening to play the Dodgers. I love the inter-league games, but in early April? Way too early IMO.

Yes, WAY too early ....
3rd series of the season and in only the 2ND week of the season .... Really ?

I rarely post in the AL Central because I follow the Mets but can somebody tell me why the hell the Mets picked up Valverde from the Tigers? This melted down last year or the before and he almost lost the game for the Mets last night.

Not sure why they picked him up but he wouldn't be closing right now if not for the injury to Bobby Parnell. The Mets have to have another decent bullpen guy who could be doing this job better than Valverede. For some reason MLB managers think a guy has to have closer experience to be able to close games.

I think the closer position is handled worse than anything else in baseball. Most managers think a closer can only get 3 outs and can only work in the 9th inning. Sorry, but if your closer is your best reliever he should be used whenever needed. If Torii Hunter, Miguel Cabrera, and Victor Martinez are coming up to bat in the 8th inning of a game with a one run lead Craig Kimbrel should be brought in to pitch to them. Most big league managers would throw some lesser bullpen guy out there and save Kimbrel for the 9th inning to pitch to Austin Jackson, Alex Avilia, and Andrew Romine.

I just used last night's lineup with the Tigers 3,4,5 hitters vs their 6,7,8 hitters and a good closer for my example but this kind of thing happens all the time. It makes no sense.
