91W NIMIQ 6 completely active now....footprint changed

Northern Colorado reporting in - all of 91 is gone now. I get 82's transponders pretty well during the day, but lose them at night, so I was expecting something similar for 91. But for the moment, I have lost all trace of SD. At least I am still getting guide info and most HD - I think I will keep paying for service for now. I have a 1 meter dish in the basement, but I don't think it's worth trying for 91 unless I get a whiff of it. IIRC, the footprint change on 82 was harsh for me at first and then got a bit better during their initial tweaking, so I will check a bit further out.

At least it's good I read this before I got up on my roof to check the switch :) But I was just in Canada, so I could have considered bringing down a Shaw Direct system if I'd been paying attention :-(

Someone posted on the board that the Shaw satellites will be replaced in 2019 to 21 and we have no idea what the footprint
will be The only major lost is Silver Screen Classics which I have no idea why Shaw does not carry but you do pick up a few locals instead Good luck

Anybody have any idea on what size dish I would need in NYC for Bell? 30 or 40
Thanks
Austin

Dead Signal

Here in Arizona, on July 2nd, I noticed that channels started to drop off one by one, until by the 4th, there were no more channels. I have both the 6131 and 3100 units, and both display "no signal". Apparently from what I heard about a week ago from an airline stewardess that works for Jet Blue, which receives Bell TV for on-board TV, the airline was told by Bell Canada that they were to expect signal loss when the airline enters into U.S. airspace, even if the flight is from one Canadian destination to the other. This seems to verify her information, that Bell is restricting their signals as closely to the border in an effort to eliminate Americans and Canadian snow birds from viewing quality TV. Already ordered Shaw Direct equipment, and ready to install the 75CM dish when it arrives. A disappointment though, as I have been with Bell since 2001, and will now have to cancel and sell my equipment.

The footprint has been aimed in a more Northerly direction for Canadians living in the Great White North, not really just to upset Snowbirds and Americans, although it does have that side effect.

Thanks for the info guys
I understand the footprint has changed and took me out of the service area, I was just hoping for some kind of "fix" that someone was working on to bring us back again, not being savvy in this area I was just hoping some wizard might come up with a solution, I guess I won't hold my breath...lol.

I spoke with Shaw in Canada yesterday and they are eager to have my business, however they are not allowed to ship south. I understand this.
I can use an address up there for the equipment delivery then my contact will have to forward the gear south to my home.

Has anybody done this and what problems if any did they run into in the process? I don't want to spend the money and have the gear disappear on route.
Thanks.

No problem shipping UPS or FED EX you won't lose it!

Equipment Ordered

No problem shipping UPS or FED EX you won't lose it!

Just ordered two Shaw HD 600 receivers, and the 75CM dish, so should have it this week from my contact in Saskatoon. I am lookign forward to finally being able to receive full HD channels, as Bell did not have this signal that strong in the States anyways. It just unfortunate, since I have been with Bell for over 10 years. It is a big change, but most likely worth it. Will keep all of you informed as to how everything goes.

napasada I know how you feel we got BEV in 2000 so it was a big change for us recently too. We were sorry to lose the Boston stations and we won't have those nice talk-free Olympics channels this year but now we have HD plus our old rcvr had a really slow guide and now we can look two weeks ahead and the guide is fast. So Im sure you'll be fine!

Hello, my first post. Usually just sit in the background and read and try to learn stuff. But I do know a company in BC that ships Shawdirect receivers to the US and mexico. My father-in-law is in Tijuana mexico and has had the dsr530 for years now with a 75cm dish. He gets units sent down for any new cdn's all the time. Not sure I can post the website, but if anyone wants it PM me and I will send it to you. If it would help anyone?
Cheers

Thank you for the information, that is good to know for a backup plan.

New Brunswick, NJ here. I posted my signal levels from 91 from 2am today and just now at 7:30pm. I am on a 84E ChannelMaster. Going to tweak alignment and will report any improvement. (since some say you can't get 82 on this as well, some suggested putting skew to 0 and aiming just for one bird)

ChrisB3127:

Thanks for posting this information. I was curious to see how signals looked further south. Has anyone else seen usable signals on Nimiq 6 closer to Virginia?

I am in North Carolina and have lost all TPs on 91W with the original Bell Express-Vu dish. I am not sure if I will continue chasing a service that I am paying over $60 like I did with 82W back in 2008 by getting a larger dish (76cm). So... your feedback is good to have.

I will be in Quebec later this month and will most likely purchase a Shaw Direct system bring it back to the US and cancel Bell.

Dave.

Mike Kohl posted a link to what we believe is the 91W footprint now
pink...you're good

I'm adding my numbers from NYC as of yesterday inline... I'm 30 miles NE of you, so I would expect similar numbers, or higher numbers for you since the 84E is a bigger dish than the 76cm round dish I'm using, but your numbers are consistently lower. Maybe it's worth checking your alignment, or maybe we really are on the edge of the new footprint, and 30 miles matters.

CanuckInNY, I'll venture outside tomorrow to see! My 84E can't see 91/82 at the sametime so I will optimize it for 91 with 0 skew. I'll report back my findings once I check it out.
