The addition of SEC to all subscribers has nothing to do with projected ratings or perceived demand. It's just another strong-arm negotiation tactic (read: extortion) by Disney.

One could argue that the sec has greater national appeal, but it would get ugly.

Fact is, they signed on with a stronger backer. Like it or not, it was a smart move, and they are where they are in the negotiations because of it.

Yes, the SEC has greater national exposure, because of the network (ESPN) that had concentrated their coverage on it for so long. National exposure does not necessarily equate to national appeal (except for the sheeple factor).

The bandwagon fans exist, and that does drive appeal.

The sec has it's share of them, with so many teams having success over the recent past, and historically, it's easy to see why.

So, espn may have covered them extensively before this, the success also plays no small part in that.

But it's a chicken-or-the-egg situation. The additional early exposure drew in the extra talent which led to the growth of the success, which builds more exposure, etc. And so it continues.

Will the SEC Network have Alt HD channels? I know the first two weeks there will be multiple games on at the same time. Or will the go regional?

That wouldn't bother me since I'm already paying for the Multi-Sport pack even though I live in a B1G sate. I have to have the package so my wife can watch her Cardinals play baseball.

I guess we'll have to wait a couple of days for it to sort out but the uplink shows channel 408 for SEC HD & the press conference says 404 "on the Hopper" (don't know why a different receiver would matter).

The hopper has drop down channels on the music and sports channels. For instance, on the hopper FS Arizona is 412-05. Other recievers do not have the drop down.
