I used to enjoy playing youtube videos through my Edision Mio+ using the plugin for this so I could watch youtube videos on my TV screen. The youtube plugin uses the media player plugin. Lately, almost any video I play stops and starts as I play it every second or so. Effectively, the feature doesn't work anymore.

Troubleshooting already done:
- Uninstalled and reinstalled both the youtube and the media player plugins.

- I've checked the Network menu in the MIo+. I use the wired LAN connection and the network test passes. Netspeedtest shows 80.24 Mbps download and 10.18 Mbps upload.

- I did a cold and warm restart of the Mio+.

- I restarted my cable/network router. The router works fine for all other household Internet applications.

I wonder if others have tried this feature while using TNAP 4.1?

ADDED: I notice most youtubes audio is labelled as MPEG 4-AAC. I wonder if this is contributing to the videos not playing smoothly.

- The youtube setup screen is as follows:

I've never used my Mio for Youtube sorry. But if you really want it fixed, you are going to have to post a duplicate of this thread over at Legitfta.com, as that's TNAP's home forum where the engineer lives (El Bandido).

I think it is some of the content is slow to download.try search popcornflix and play a movie. got to be a server issue on some content.

I will do that. This feature is just a convenience. I can still stream youtube and connect the PC via HDMI to the TV. It's incredible how much stuff about anything is on youtube (even FTA).

Added: I tried to watch a couple of popcornflix movies. Same issue.

It's not about download speed. I can play the same videos on my PC and they play smoothly. It's more like the plugin(s) or the receiver is causing buffering of the video. I noticed that the issue didn't occur when I watched a live youtube stream.

I lowered the max video resolution in the YouTube setup and that helped here. YouTube must be slowing down the video of some content not all using a 3rd party app. Funny how the Popcornflix play fine at max res.

There is the page if you want to get the newest version of the app.

Workaround discovered: The plugin allows me to download the video of interest. The audio and video tracks download separately to my local disk. When I play it locally, it plays perfectly even at the HD resolution. The only catch is it takes a bit of time to download.

I made a posting on legitfta last night. This morning I checked and the reported issue was still there even using lower resolution. I then checked, saw some updates were available for my Edision, so I updated. Now...even using highest resolution, every youtube plays smoothly. Problem seems to be resolved! It's great to be able to play any youtube I want through Edision to my big screen.

I just ran the updates after reading this. If you check the Commit log, it clearly among a few other things updated the Youtube app.

About a year ago I posted YouTube was working fine but now it locks up and the only way out is to pull the plug to reboot. Exit or stop does not work. I can start the plugin and start a search but once that starts, I get a little spinning wheel and the onscreen clock stops. I hardly ever blind scan and used the YouTube a week ago and it worked fine. I have not done updates or anything to the receiver for about a month when I backed it up and did a software update. Maybe a file got corrupted somehow because I get the same result if I use a different image. I did remove the plugin and then added it back but it still won't work. Is anyone else having this issue or only me?
Oh, media player works just fine.

Youtube plugin is working fine here on Tnap 4.2 and other images in all slots but I am using my own Youtube API keys.

Thanks for checking. I do remember generating some keys and inserting them in a file some time ago but forget how now. I’ll check my notes-once I find them!

I was going to install the last backup from a month ago but received an error that it couldn't find two files it needed for the process. Then I checked and I was still running TNAP 4.1. Once I did the upgrade to 4.2, the YouTube started working just fine. I have no idea what happened with 4.1 and/or YouTube plugin over the last week.

Isn't it just a novelty? It's so much easier navigating with a bt keyboard and mouse using a fire device and on my smart TV. Hope everyone is buying a programmable remote and cloning their mio remotes.

I do have a keyboard (wireless) plugged into my MIO and it really makes things easy like renaming channels or searching YouTube. I also have a learning remote and have the original put away.
My problem is I have a dumb (not smart) older Sony TV. I like it because it has many inputs. HDMI’s for the newer stuff, composite input and also a number of component inputs for my older camcorder and VCR. Using the Media Player and YouTube plugins and the MIO don’t tie up my computer.

It's all good. Get a fire tv and use one of those HDMI ports and welcome to 2022.
Enjoy those 4:2:2 channels with VLC.

The not smart Tv is not a problem and just fine as long as it has hdmi it can be smart with the Mio4k and another streaming device(s). I'd rather use the Mio4k and Kodi player or the YouTube plugin when I can but some services just work better or require a streaming device and they are pretty cheap.
