I picked up a Voom receiver NIB on ebay for pretty cheap. Any use besides HD OTA that anyone knows about?

Will it even get OTA without having been pre-activated?
If so, does it feature any sort of Guide?
... or did that arrive via satellite?

Will that remote run any of the 4DTV boxes?
If so, and it was cheap enough, that may be its most valuable feature. -

actually you got a doorstop since its NIB.

The receiver HAD to be active when Voom pulled the plug to be used for OTA. If you master reset one (like I did) you get a doorstop. If the OTA part works (if it was used) the guide is taken from the OTA and not satellite. I used one for a while. The issue I had was the CBS "glitch". If your market CBS was O&O (owned and operated) by CBS if you went to that channel the receiver would reboot

The remote works for 4DTV or Shaw Direct (Starchoice)

Shame those old Voom boxes can't be used for ITC DC2 stuff. In theory it could but you would have to get into the inner workings and trick it to see another EMM provider. Same crap with the Starchoice receivers. Whoever finds a way to do that would sure free up allot of doorstops for DC2 FTA

TVROPro, I was thinking the same thing. These are excellent HD boxes, if only they would work on a provider other than Voom. I'm surprised there hasn't been more research on this idea for the Voom boxes as well as their cousins used by Fordstar (I think that was the name of the system) at Ford dealerships.
