I'd say mine was in the 100-200 ish pound range..

Me and my buddy could carry it.(without a mount)
Thank you. That is nice to know. This thing looks like it could be extremely heavy, and I don't want it to crash down and hurt somebody. I have read that they can be misleadingly heavy as far as appearance. Thanks, and good luck with yours!

Patience....

I recommend letting the cement cure for at least 4 days to a week. A large dish will loosen the post in the uncured cement and cause unnecessary problems in the future. I know how it feels to be anxious to start the assembly! :)

What did you use for anti-rotation? Weld on tabs, rebar or through-bolts?


Taking the welded on tab approach. This is only a temporary home for it. (plan to move in 7 months).

Your mount is pretty similar to mine.. Be aware that mount probably weights almost as much as the dish. Personally if you don't have more then 3 people I recommend taking the dish off the mount. And then taking the mount off.. Because I feel it would be VERY heavy combined.

My run is over 100 feet and I use dual shield RG6 with solid copper conductor - no issues. Purchased a 1000 ft spool a few years back on eBay for $88 shipped. :)

I see an actuator motor already on your dish. Have you tested it? If it's functional you won't need reed switches/motor.
Just bought a titanium dish positioner. Suppose when I get that I can fire it up and see how it works. :)
I'm jealous, always wanted one but still have an old VBox7 chugging along. :rolleyes:

I suppose I should clarify, I ment cable for the motor and sensor. The site recommends not using sprinkler cable.

So I purchased a asc1 and was wondering on recommendation for the cable for the motor/sensor.

The least expensive route would be to purchase off the shelf items from a local home supply store.

The sensor and servo circuits each need a shielded bundle. For each of the two circuits, check out using a length of security cable (3 conductor with shield/bare drain wire,18-20g, stranded). Sold by the foot or in rolls.

For motor power, check out low voltage landscape lighting wire (2 conductor, 12-14g, stranded). Sold by the foot or in coils.

So me and my buddy were talking.....

Would there be a issue if I just mount the asc1 in a enclosure right on the pole and just run the coax to the house?
 
I wouldn't install your ASC1 outside, the differences in temperature, especially from day to night, will probably cause condensation inside and make it work erratically, or maybe ruin it.

I use a ASC1 here on one of my dishes with a C/Ku/polarotor feed on it, works great, they're very nice controllers.
