2017-18 NCAA Football Thread

South Carolina (8-4, 5-3 SEC) is heading back to the Outback Bowl to face Michigan, again. Reminiscing the South Carolina Michigan game in the Outback Bowl of January 1, 2013. Jadeveon Clowney had a monster hit on Vincent Smith to force and recover a fumble. This was just after Michigan was given a first down by an official that was clearly short. The Gamecocks won that game 33 to 28.

New Years Six Bowl lineups are set.

I understand why none of them are on Dec 31, due to it being a Sunday, but why is the Cotton on the 29th instead of 30th?

  • Fri, Dec 29, 8:30pm - Cotton Bowl - #5 Ohio State vs. #8 USCw
  • Sat, Dec 30, 4:00pm - Fiesta Bowl - #9 Penn State vs. #11 Washington
  • Sat, Dec 30, 8:00pm - Orange Bowl - #6 Wisconsin vs. #10 Miami
  • Mon, Jan 1, 12:30pm - Peach Bowl - #7 Auburn vs. #12 UCF
  • Mon, Jan 1, 5:00pm - Rose Bowl - #2 Oklahoma vs. #3 Georgia
  • Mon, Jan 1, 8:45pm - Sugar Bowl - #1 Clempson vs. #4 Alabama
  • Mon, Jan 8, 8:00pm - National Championship Game in Atlanta
Interesting how 3 out of the 4 teams are so close to Atlanta
  • Georgia - 1 hour
  • Clempson - 2 hours
  • Alabama - 3 hours

We'll definitely get a lot of their fans here in Atlanta, even with the ones without tickets to the game, due to them being so close.
Not sure if I'll be getting tickets, might think about it if Georgia is in it. But if anyone comes down for the game, give me a holler, maybe we can catch a drink.

Clowney's one shining moment.
It was one hell of a hit ....

I don’t understand how ESPN can constantly talk about how bad OSU’s loss was to an average Iowa team and yet rank Iowa 24th in the power index. Iowa must not be too bad.

Iowa was 7-5, so basically an average team. If it had been a close loss, it wouldn't be so bad. But 55-24 is a bad loss no matter who it's to.

I was wondering how many times this would be shown when this matchup was announced I am looking forward to the game. Next years QB should be playing in this one

Im fine with it. I watched some interviews, and read about his past and a good article on why his record is what it is. He is a monster recruiter in Fla, and should bring Ron Dugans in from Miami who is another monster recruiter. I'm also kind of ready for a different kind of offense, Jimbo was pretty bad with tempo and a few other things the last two seasons, and I think a young guy will buck that up.

Also, I have a feeling he'd like to be the first Black head coach to win a Natty, and he has a better chance at FSU than Oregon IMO. He is also an FSU fan since he was young, and he is on record as it being a "dream job", so I am excited.

Everyone knows Jimbo is a good coach, but many of the fans and Boosters were over his antics last year, and I am glad FSU stood up to him this time. He has pulled this shakedown maneuver 5 times since he has been at FSU and it is OLD. A&M will work better for him, they have stupid money he can waste on whatever he wants, and then when he still hasn't won them a natty in 5 years they can fire him with a 35 mil payout, his future is set.

FSU has only had 2 coaches in 40 years, they like stability, and the fans are fine with 9 and 10 win seasons. The issue for us the last two years has been you are out of the ACCCG runnin by the time you hit October, that is unacceptable. And this year barely making a bowl. Some of his colors showed with his actions last week.

LSU vs Notre Dame, Jan. 1, Noon

I’ll take that again considering how the season started, lol.

Picks not who I necessarily want to win.

  • Mon, Jan 1, 8:45pm - Sugar Bowl - #1 Clemson vs. #4 Alabama
  • Mon, Jan 8, 8:00pm - National Championship Game #1 Clemson

I might be holding off on my picks, due to things that might happen.

It should have been Alabama, and I don't have a dog in the hunt.

Don't lose to Iowa and you are prob in there.

I'll edit your comment just a bit. Don't get blown out by Iowa and you're in the top 4. Lose to Iowa by 10 points or less and you're still in the top 4 most likely.

As for any of the other bowls...I think you'll see more players each year sitting out the bowl game if they're heading to the NFL. They figure why risk getting hurt in a game that doesn't mean anything when they have millions on the line?

Of course the schools don't feel that way. A win to the school is publicity, donations, etc...
