Selig represents the MLB owners in negotiations the same way Goodell represents the NFL owners, Stern represents the NBA owners, and Bettman represents the NHL owners.

That's how it works.

But BEFORE Selig, the commissioners office represent THE GAME, not the owners and not the players. THAT has changed.

Except the OWNERS have always been the ones PAYING for the Commish.
When THAT stops, the commish will have a better chance to do what a commish should be doing.

When the Owners and the Player split the cost ......

I am surprised how easily they let cheaters in the hall of fame like Gaywad...err Gaylord Perry and Don Sutton. These two guys where the biggest cheaters in the history of baseball! And the funny thing is people loved how they cheated.

The Commissioner works for the owners. And the owners work for the customer. Same way the CEO of any consumer company works for the stockholders, and thereby the customers.

That was a very long time ago and a different Commish at the time.

No OWNER works for the customer.
They STEAL from the customer, yes, work for them , hardly.

Sorry, that does not apply in professional sports. Commissioner works for the owners in professional sports. The ONLY commissioners in a professional sport that worked for sport itself, were in baseball...and now that is gone.

You two both just said 'the commissioners work for the owners in professional sports'. I guess we all agree on that.
