I was at a friend's place about a year ago, she had Suddenlink, I think, and when we watched some on demand content (Sons of Anarchy), you couldn't fast forward in it at all (if I remember correctly). And yes, the on demand content had ads, and you couldn't skip them.
Some of the Dish on-demand movies I've downloaded do this too. Sucks. I refuse to watch it if it won't let me skip past ads, although I got into a big argument with my wife the last time this happened. She wanted to watch the movie anyway.
Unfortunately there appears to be no way (on my VIP DVRs) to see in advance of the streaming/download which programs have unskippable ads, and which ones don't. It does warn you about this when you start watching the program. I probably have to look more closely at the content provider, but that's not so easy either, depending upon how I found the program I wanted to watch.
Maybe something like that is in store for the Hopper. Instead of Autohop, you get AutoForcedView.
I'm sure Moonves would be delighted to have such a thing. And I sure as hell hope Charlie doesn't sell out like that. I worry from his remarks that he wants to insert his own targeted ads into locals, which seems like a pointless exercise if Autohop is still enabled.
