Signal Loss on a Mandatory Long Cable Run. What Can Be Done?

Hey Guys, I'm hoping one of you can help me out with my issue here. I'm helping a guy out in the Adirondacks install a Dishnet setup for his house. Due to the location of the house, the only place that you can receive the signal is around 600 feet from his house at the lake shore. There's...

    SBS6 update?

Well I'm back. Hopefully some of you remember me (the pain in the ass from a few months ago). Been pretty hectic around here lately. I just started college, so it's even worse. But I've got the hankering to tinker with my dish setup once again, and I was wondering if SBS6 is still up, and if...

Need help planning Dish Commercial MDU setup. One Dish, 25+ receivers

A friend of mine approached me about helping him to setup Dish Network for his campground. He wants to provide a dish network hookup on at least 25 of the camping sites, with the ability to expand the system if needed. What equipment do I need to buy to make a reliable system, and where can I...

Pictures of my Dish setup. Tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Before I say anything, these are not the best pictures. My battery was dying, and a storm was essentially developing right on top of me (thundering like crazy right now). The dish and motor are set to the exact settings that I've been told to set them to by people here and by the calculators...

    Need Help aiming dish

Ok, so just got my dis put up, and all the connections made. I'm having trouble getting a signal though. I've made sure everything is plum, and all the settings for aiming are right, to the best of my knowledge, but all I'm getting is a fluctuating signal quality of 0 to 4 percent on all the...

Using a 18x20 Directv dish for DishNetwork

What is needed to convert a Directv 18" by 20" dish to work with Dishnetwork? I have a spare Directv dish, but want to use it for Dishnetwork at my camp (switched to dish). Can I just attach a DishNetwork LNBF to the dish and point, or is it more complicated?

Are there any STB FTA receivers capable of receiving DVB-S2 streams? Just curious, considering DVB-S2 is supposedly the next generation....

Best DVB-S PCI Card, Slaving to STB Receiver, Best Software?

I'd like to get a DVB-S PCI card for my computer, so I can receive some HD programming, and I was wondering what the best PCI card is for a Vista computer? Also, how would I go about slaving it to a mercury II receiver? Should I get a DC block? Also what seems to be the best software for...

Just ordered my first setup!! :)

Well I really wanted a C and KU band setup, but I don't feel like messing around with a BUD right now, so I ordered a Motorized FTA setup fro Sadoun for KU only. I'm putting it right out on my front porch roof, which has a fairly clean shot at all the satellites. Hopefully at some point I'll...

One Receiver, One KU Motorized Dish, One BUD Motorized Dish. Possible?

Alright, I'm really sorry for all the threads and questions. I promise, they'll be coming to an end. Anyway, is it possible to have one receiver (mercury II) connected to a 100cm dish powered by a SG2100 motor, and also connected to a BUD which is powered by an actuator? How would I go about...

    90cm verses a 120cm dish

Well I gave up on my plans for a 10' BUD, it was just too much hassle for right now. Not to mention that 95% of the stuff is out there on KU band already. I plan to eventually get a C-band dish, but until then, I'm getting get a package deal from sadoun. My question is, I live in the...

    Slaving Receivers

I have a Uniden UST-4400 and I'm getting a Mercury II for my setup. I was wondering if it's at all possible to slave the Mercury II to the Uniden so I can have the uniden move the dish instead of having to get a V-Box II. Is this possible? What are the drawbacks if any?

    FTA secret forum

When I was here about a year ago, I remember there was a special forum that you had to be approved to have access to. I notice that's no longer listed anywhere on the forums. Did it disappear? Just curious, because I would have eventually liked to apply for membership, when I get my setup.

Found a dish, need some opinions.

Alright, so I was driving by this house that I go by just about every day and finally decided to stop in and ask if she wanted to get rid of her old dish setup. She said yes, but she wants $50 for it. I asked if I could take a look at it. The dish is all metal, it has a few dents in it, but...

    Digital Simulcast moving backwards?

Time Warner recently switched over most of the analog channels here to digital although there are a few left to do. Today though I noticed I'm actually loosing digital channels. The local Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC channels have now gone back to their analog format. Anyone have any idea why Time...

Anyone know how to read diagnostic information from a cable box (signal quality)

I'm having trouble with HD channels pixelizing. The picture never freezes, and it never really totally pixelates like if the signal was to temporarily drop out, but it's constantly there, and it just started after I ordered the HD Pak (which I doubt has anything to do with it). You'll notice...

    Buying used receivers

Is there anything special I should know about buying used receivers? My old philips receiver which I've had since 2000 is acting strange, and my stand alone Tivo recently died, so I was thinking of looking around for a used DirecTV Tivo unit. I only use it during the summer months, but I'm...

Digital Audio, 8300HD and Time Warner

So I was browsing the channels, everything was going great, then I landed on The Family Channel. There was no picture, and white noise coming through my speakers, I thought maybe it was just that channel, so I turn it everything is fine for the next two channels, then I get to CNN (3 channels...

    Chances of getting FiOS

I live in Northern New York (Malone to be exact), and I'd like to know what my chances of getting FiOS are. Don't laugh, I'm serious. I know it's limited to large cities, and richer areas right now, but still I'd like to know if Verizon has plans to eventually roll out FiOS to areas that...

    Looking to switch from Cable

I'm looking to possibly switch to Dish, mainly because they offer the most HD programming of any provider I can get. The only thing I'm going to miss by switching is On Demand channels such as HBO on Demand. I'm looking for the cheapest, easiest, and best way to switch. I need 1 HD DVR, and 4...

SA 8300HD DVR Recording problems As of the last few weeks my HD DVR has been acting strange. I'm thinking Time Warner upgraded the OS, but I can't confirm it. Time Warner Syracuse New York Starz On Demand

I'm in Malone New York, and Time Warner's Syracuse division serves this area. We have just about all the premium movie channel On Demand services, but we don't have Starz On Demand. Is this a Time Warner thing nationwide or just in this area? I'd really like to see this On Demand channel...

Want to purchase TimeTrax, have a few problems with trial though

I downloaded the latest version to try it. I love the concept, but based on the trial I'm sort of afraid to go ahead and purchase it. When I start it up, it takes anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds to find my xmpcr, and then whenever I click on any options or try to open any dialogs in TimeTrax it...
