2013 AL Central

Well yeah but when power starts to decrease that usually means bat speed is starting to decrease and when bat speed starts to decrease so do hits. I hope I'm wrong but I kind of thought this might happen.

And a second consecutive night that Mr. Martinez has hit one out !

Tigers up early 1-0

His lack of bat speed appears to be helping him well.

Not a cheapie either! That's the hardest I've ever seen Victor hit a baseball. Hopefully it's a good sign. Go Tigers!

Once Jackson gets back, is it time to send Andy Dirks down to Toledo, hitting .239 at this point ?

It appears that playing Full Time is taking his aggressiveness out of his game.

I was just going to mention he should be benched tonight after whiffing his first two times at the plate. He's seeing the ball tonight...like Stevie Wonder!!!

Nice to see the Tigers take all pitchers for their first 5 draft picks:

#20. Jonathon Crawford RHP Florida
#39. Corey Knebel RHP Texas
#58. Kevin Ziomek LHP Vanderbilt
#95. Jeff Thompson RHP Louisville
#126. Austin Kubitza RHP Rice

Of course, we need help in the bullpen NOW.

Tigers should be very busy at or before the Trade deadline.
Bullpen for sure, potentially a CLOSER ...

Possibly a LF that can his .275 or better.

LF may or may not be addressed, seeing the have a lot of the Kids to play in the outfield and Castallonois as well.

I doubt LF is on Dombrowski's mind since, as you mentioned, they have a youngsters and platoon players that do an adequate job, their offense is in tact, and the defense has greatly improved over last years (I still have nightmares of watching Delmon Young plod his way out there)...but the bullpen still stinks. If their draft selections are any indication, they are going to focus 100% on the bullpen. Hmmm. The only thing I miss about Delmon is that he was "money" during the playoffs.

Was just gonna ask you how he's looked tonight, I have been in and out, cutting grass and other stuff.

He's still in there at the moment, got a few BIG outs there to end the 6th.

He was okay (threw some 96 and 97 mph fastballs in the 5th and 6th innings) but he started aiming the ball a few times...especially in the 6th inning. I was surprised to see him come out for the 7th inning, but shut 'em down. Offhand, I'm not too worried because it was only 61 degrees at game time and he's never pitched well in cool or wet weather. At least it seems that way to me. I think he'll be just fine when the game time temps are above 80. :)

Fwiw, I heard his name mentioned yesterday, he must have hit one out.

I think we've all been Spoiled by Mr. Verlander in the last several years ...
Fwiw, they showed his stats from '11 vs today and he's really not that far off, other than the era being a 1/2 run higher.

Exactly. He's never gotten off to a great start, which I've always attributed to being a much less effective cold weather pitcher. Valid or not, it's been a long, cool spring. I was glad to see him throwing his fastball 97 in the later innings today. I think he'll be fine, and he's going to move to 8-4 this evening which ain't to shabby.

Valverde sure makes things interesting. Good thing we had a 4-run lead because he served-up two (2) solo HRs. Uh Oh! Tying run coming to the plate.

Ya, he lives by the Todd "Roller Coaster" Jones theory, if you have a 4 run lead, you can give up 3 and still win the game ... Thats what I hate about him, but we don't have a Closer on the team other than him.

Game time tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 PM. I'm not sure if I'll be watching it live or having to do family stuff. You know, I would love to watch it on MLB TV when I get home since they record each game, but I noticed they show the score on the game grid. Is there any way to turn this off?

Can't help you, don't have the program.
