Seems that the Giants fans and the Mets fans are similiar...like Yankee fans are somewhat similar to JETS fans
See, I always thought it was Yankees/Giants/Knicks/Rangers on one side and Mets/Jets/Nets/Islanders on the other (not sure about the Devils). Of course, my perception is a generalization.
So is mine based on my 9 years in upstate NY and the New Yorkers down here...

The ratings for Super Bowl 46 were very strong, but not quite strong enough to set a new record.
The Giants’ 21-17 win over the Patriots came in with a 47.8 overnight rating and 71 share of the viewing audience, according to the Associated Press. That’s just off the record 47.9 overnight rating for the Packers’ victory over the Steelers last year, a mark that game shares with Super Bowl 21 when the Giants beat the Broncos.
Sunday night’s broadcast peaked in the fourth quarter when Nielsen reported a 51.8 rating as the Giants fought their way back to a victory. The game set a new Nielsen NFL record for Boston where the game received a 56.7 rating while the game trailed only that previous Giants Super Bowl among viewers in New York.

I have family from New York and they're all over the board.
One cousin is: Yankees, Bills, Rangers and Knicks
His brother is: Yankees, Steelers, Devils, Nets
The other cousin is: Yankees, Giants, Rangers, Knicks
Then I have Uncles who live 3 blocks away, 1 roots for the Giants, other roots for the Jets
There really doesn't seem to be a formula. They seem to pick and chose.
MOST of the Giants fans I know, root for the Mets. And ALL of the Yankee fans I know, root for the JETS...and the few that don't tell me, "...the ONLY true New York team in the state when it comes to the NFL...the Buffalo Bills!" ...and usually, it accompanied by a few "hell yeah!" in the background... LOL!
There are tons of exceptions (like me), but the most predominant groupings are that Yankee fans tend to be Giant fans (the Yankee Stadium/old guard generational grouping), and Met fans tend to be Jet fans (the Queens/Long Island, new guard generational grouping).
As the generations age and mix the above tends to become less and less the case, but it's still prevalant to some extent today.

How about the Cruz fumble recovery that was wiped out with that 12-man call on the Pats. The Giants scored a TD a couple plays later...
on my way home from work i heard a live interview with eli saying pretty much the same thing i said this morning and thought after the play happened last night.
Eli,when asked about the TD said he wanted Bradshaw to sit at the one yard line to force the pats to call their last time out. it would've been 3rd down and since the pats were not planing to stop them from scoring it would've taken a little more time off the clock while they ran it in from the one yard line. leaving the pats with zero time outs and less time on the clock.
either way that doesn't matter anymore........

Then you are one of the FEW Yankee fans I know that is not "intertwined" with being a JETS fan.
Was thinking about this toward the end of the game. What's to prevent a defense that is trying to keep another team from going 80 yards in 57 seconds from having 12 men on the field...on every play?
So the penalty is five yards...so what? Time is more important at that point, and every play will eat up valuable seconds.
When the Giants were called for 12 men with about 20 seconds left I told my husband jokingly...I bet they did that on purpose. Now I'm not sure if I should have been joking...

i thought the same thing. i think the NFL will have to tweak that penalty a bit because it will happen again on purpose.
Noticed that as well. I thought they might add the time back on the clock. Maybe that's what they should do to tweak that rule...restore the clock when it's a defensive penalty only.
Maybe I'm missing something, but the officials are supposed to be counting for this and calling it before the ball is snapped, and if it's not the offense can refuse the penalty and take any yardage gained on the play if they want.
Can't say I remember ever seeing it called on the defense before the snap...only after. Theoretically someone can run off the field at the last second before the snap and they're back to 11, so it's not a penalty until the ball is snapped...right?
It's 12 men in the huddle on offense that is called before the snap.
